Jack Johnson better watch out, Culture Reject is better and hasn't done any shite Charmin adverts (yet) . I went to see this guy on Tuesday night, and because he was so good i went the wednesday night too. He has been on my ipod for the last two weeks. When i confessed this to him after seeing him live he seemed well chuffed. He played two intimate gigs in our fair city, courtesy of EARmusic, Tuesday at ''The slaughtered lamb' in Farringdon (beeeeeautiful little venue... they have beds to lay on and yummy cider.) and Monkey Chews in Chalk Farm. I thought everyone knew about him. But they don't.... But they should. His layered tracks experiment with reggae and spanishy beats with pretty tinkles and knock out little rifts. Saxophones, trumpets, glockenspiel, you name it its there. His voice reminds me of Jeff Buckley for its melancholy sustained notes that make you shiver. A harmonious symphony inspired by ''mourning and love''. He's been touring Europe but is finished in the u.k for the moment. Ive promised his manager I'll organise the Royal Symphony orchestra for his next U.K tour. By then you'll know all the words.
